How frustrating is it when you work so so hard on your post or reel and you hardly get any engagement! Maybe you posted it at the wrong time? Maybe your content wasn't 'share-worthy', maybe you need to be more consistent. Or maybe the algorithm gods are not in your favour...who knows!
You are not alone. It happens to everyone.
The good news though is that I've got some tips that will help you increase your visibility and get more of your ideal clients to take a look at your content and engage with you.
At the end of the day, that's what we need to focus on...not the likes or the follows. It's always about your ideal client. So the end goal should always be 1) will my ideal client come across my content and 2) will they engage with it?
Here are my top tried and tested tips that have helped my clients increase their reach and improve their engagement with potential clients on their social media.
5 Tips to Increase Your Visibility & Engage with your Ideal Clients
1. Do more Lives
I'll just get the hardest one out of the way, so we can move on!
I'll explain with an example - the way that Instagram algorithm works (at the time of writing this!), they'll push your Live content out to all your followers first, and then out to the rest of gram. For other content that you post like an image or a text-based / graphic post, the reach is quite limited (some social media experts say that only 2 - 4% of your followers will see your post on their feed) - but not if you do a Live (and then share it on your feed).
2. Use trending music for your Reels
It goes without saying that you need to make more reels and videos. And no, you don't need to sing or dance in them I promise! Just show yourself, and your work and how you can help your ideal clients. It can be a selection of images showing your work, it can be a short video of your behind the scenes, it can even be a graphic post of your favourite quote that you made in Canva. One thing to always make sure of is that you need to use trending music in the background. So how do you know what is trending? When you are scrolling through your feed, look for reels with an arrow pointing up and to the right - that means the audio is trending and you can save it in your library. When you make your reel, use that audio and that will boost the reach of your reel.
3. Hashtags are still important
I'll be honest with you but the jury is still out on how many hashtags to use. My advice is to use as many as you can. And remember that hasthags work best on some platforms (like Instagram and LinkedIn) and they are irrelevant for others (like Facebook). More importantly, what should these hashtags be, and where do you find them? You can do a whole course on hashtags alone, but there really are two simple rules to keep in mind: 1) use ones that are relevant to your content and / or location and 2) don't use very big ones with millions of posts, instead use a combination of niche ones in your industry with a sprinkling of bigger (and relevant) hashtags.
4. Wink & Woo your clients
Social media is a two-way street. The best way to increase your visibility in front of your potential clients is to get to them first! I have to give credit to my business coach who first introduced me to the 'wink & woo' strategy. It basically means to find your ideal client (for example through a hashtag or you'll come across them more organically through search suggestions), and then this is how it goes:
1) like their posts (my suggestion is the top 9),
2) comment on a post or two (at least 4 - 5 words if not more)
3) follow them.
And BOOM! You have gained their attention! They are very likely to check you out and possibly give you a follow back. At least, you have started that relationship and they are not a cold lead anymore.
Bonus tip: don't forget about them, keep nurturing your connection, and stay visible to them.
5. Use Professional Brand Images
Yes I'm definitely biased but professional brand images of your business can play a HUGE role in elevating your brand to the next level. If you would like to attract premium clients, then you need to showcase your brand in a similar light - high quality, exclusive and polished.
Here is why you need professional and bespoke brand photos to increase your visibility in front of your ideal clients:
You need a professional image for your profile (plus an image if you are on linktree). This is your first impression, and you really want to impress your potential clients with this one.
You need fresh, relevant and regular content all the time. Even if you have big following on your social media, you need new content ALL THE TIME.
You need high quality visuals that are consistent across your social media platforms and your website
You need bespoke images of YOU - you are the face behind your brand.
You need to show what its like to work with you - show the behind the scenes, show yourself working with clients or customers, show your personality. People buy from people.
